Hello Everyone,
As you all know we have scheduled the times for all of our focus groups and now it is time to start recruiting participants. The purpose of this page is to give everyone some ideas on how to recruit since we don't have much time. Please feel free to add any ideas you have about how to recruit people to this page.
Note Each group of moderator and observers are in charge of recruiting for their own focus group participants. However, if you are recruiting for yours and you find someone available for one of the other focus groups, by all means sign them up. This is still a team effort, just because a group is in charge of their recruiting doesn't mean that they should be the only ones doing it!
Remember that we have 3 undergraduate focus groups and 3 Graduate focus groups so recruit accordingly. Don't recruit undergraduate students for a Graduate focus group and vice versa.
Possible Ways to Recruit People
1) Paula and I have sent e-mails to department heads for them to please send out mass e-mails asking for volunteers.
2)This is probably going to be the most effective way to recruit people. In groups of two, schedule a time together to walk around Nelson with a clip board that has all the meeting dates and times and just ask everyone you see if they would like to participate in a focus group. Explain to them what the topics of discussion are and remind them that their ideas and feedback will directly contribute to changes in the COM (changes that will directly affect them). And of course, tell them they will receive free pizza and drinks for participating. Sign of as many people as possible.
3)Take a few minutes at the beginning of one of your classes and make an announcement about the focus groups. Tell everyone briefly what they are about, why we are having them, what are the topics and what their compensation will be and then tell them that anyone who is interested to see you after class.
4)Or ask one of your teachers to make an announcement to your class about the focus groups and to have anyone interested to contact you.
5)Post bullitens or any other kid of mass communication on myspace or facebook about the focus groups.
