This is Dustin Lyerly, Section 2 Budget Director.
I like the feature on gopack.com where the 4 or 5 main headlines are featured with each headline being enlarged one at a time in a continuous cycle. There is also a picture attached to each headline to bring even more attention to the news or event.

This is Ashley Cranford, section 1-events.
I looked on some of the other college websites and really liked that all of the staff infomation was there for the teachers and their background without having to go through a general website like our courses.ncsu.edu type thing. Also I know that our events group kind of x-ed out the M&M idea becuase that wasn't anything we could hang on to so we were thinking between cups and koozies for another promotional item once the T-shirt design is finalized. So which one do you all think is better?

This is Peyton Holland Co-Agency Director, Section 1
At the research meeting Thursday night, we talked about what drew students to certain sites, such as facebook, myspace, etc. One common theme is that they are customizable to each persons need. An idea that we tossed around was seeing if our new webmaster had the capabilities of making the COM website customizable so that students could log in and their most used links could pop or main likes, like wolfware courses, ncsu webmail, webct, and things of that nature so they wouldnt have to go through all the steps on the ncsu.edu website. Being able to log in also gives them a chance to feel like they have a site of their own, something that would be unique about the college of management. The idea came up as well to allow people to create a brief profile and link them by classes so that classmates could easily get up with each other. We arent trying to creat COMbook? or anything, just throwing ideas out that attract people to other websites. Let's talk about this some if we have time on Friday, and maybe we could as some questions in focus groups about how they would like certain features added to the site.

This is Erin Degerman, Section 1
I think we should ask the college students from other colleges(altogether or like PAMS) what level of pride they have in their college and how that is helped along and established. Also I poked around on Stanford's site and the coolest thing I found was http://itunes.stanford.edu/. I'm going to ask my cousin if anyone actually uses it/what is really on there.

This Teran Rankin, Section 1
I wasn't able to attend the Research meeting this past Tuesday night and e-mailed my ideas to Paula about Focus Group Topics, but since all of you were not there I want to post them here.
Some Ideas I had were: the COM website (why have people never heard of it, and never use it), getting people more involved in organizations through the COM (what would be a good way of doing that), Impressions of the COM (how would be describe it, what do they like or not like about it).

This is Chip Pope, Section 2
Going along with Elizabeth's ideas, we can also ask what students do not like at certain things, to be sure we stay away from them. Also ask what things/events stick in their mind and why. And even though it has nothing to do with events, see how many people have actually been to the COM website, know how to get there, and read the E-News thing. All of these questions, with answers hopefully, will make not only the event more successful, but communication within the COM only better.

This is Amanda Rasmussen section 1. I looked at UNC-CH business school site and I thought it was neat you could look at all the old alumni magazine archives. I also liked that it had random quotes and alot of alumni imput/ support on the web page.

This is Elizabeth Lane - director of the Events team for section 1. Right now, the only thing I can think of for a focus group is talking to students about what type of events would attract them to attend. I would be interested in examples of things we could do to generate more student participation in the events we are looking to put on later in the semester. Also, what the most effective means of advertising and getting the word out would be.

Also...in class we talked about looking at the websites for other colleges to see what we liked. I checked out the website for the school of business at the College of William and Mary. I really liked their use of color and pictures/graphics to enhance the site. With the COM's site right now, when you click on the link for "current students," it just comes to a page with a bunch of hyperlinks, but no color or pictures. I think the addition of these would greatly enhance the college's website and make it more pleasing to the eye and user-friendly.

Hey everyone,

This is Matt Williams the research director for section 1. One of our main focuses for Friday's class is to have the topics for our focus groups narrowed down. Therefore, I am posting below some ideas that we have come up with so far and I ask that everyone contribute their own ideas and add to this list. In class on Friday we will go over these ideas and begin to select the topics that everyone feels are most important and relevant for this project. I also ask that the directors of internal communications and events please post ideas for focus groups that will help your teams accomplish your goals. In other words if you need information on what type of events to hold then let's set up a focus group for that topic. This is your opportunity to get the information you need.
Here are the topics we have compiled so far:

  • What is the overall image of the COM?
  • E-news (how to get more ppl. involved, how can we improve it, etc.)
  • What kind of events will bring the biggest turn out while promoting a positive message?
  • How do we get people to go to the COM website?
  • How do we create a unified pride for the COM?

We ask that all the directors contribute at least one idea for a focus group by Thursday night in preparation for Friday's class. Thanks everyone.

Hi this is Jerry section 1
I like all of these topics and think they will bring about good discussion in focus groups. But, I also think we need to have a focus group talking about what types of images we want for the college of management. Since there is such an issue with this T-shirt idea!

This is Jonathan Sturgis of section 2. While looking at other websites I noticed a few things that our COM website should work on. First of all, I think there should be a clear division between News and Events sections. Take a look at Michigan's Website. This will help distinguish what is going on in the COM and what is on the calendar, not a mesh of both. This seems easier to follow, especially for people who are just interested in one or another.
Secondly, I like the idea of having a spotlight story on the front page. This is something that alumni can relate with, current students can get excited about, and prospective students can use to influence their school choice. Take a look at UCLA's page for an example.
These are just a couple of things I have thought about and can be discussed soon I presume.

This is Whitney Hensley, section 1.
I looked at Duke's website and found it helpful that they had a direct link to the different schools within the university on their main webpage. I also had the idea that it may improve the College of Management's website by having a link to Webmail on the main page.

This is Loren Wilson, agency director, section 2.
I like a lot of the ideas that are posted here, and I think we are going to get some very valuable information. However, there is one important thing about focus groups that I think we are forgetting: focus groups are not unified based on the topic, but based on the kinds of participants we select for each one. Hope that makes sense, I will try to clarify in class. But we don't need to be planning different focus groups for all of these topics necessarily...we could bring up most of these topics at all of the focus group meetings. We need to be thinking of how to divide the participants up so that each focus group has a similar or related group of participants.
And my idea for a focus group: During the activities week we are having for FYC, we could have a focus group one of those days with first year college students. We could ask them what their perceptions of the COM are, what some of the determining factors for them chosing to apply to the COM are, how they compare COM with other colleges in the university, and then we could roll out the "real" campaign and see how they respond to that. See everyone in class on Friday!
