Hello. I don't know if people check this often but this is for Elizabeth. I talked to a basketball player and he told me that we would have to go through the office (somewhere in WB) but that he doesn't think there's any paper work. Just wanted to let you know that. Also I have the handbill for the breakfast on my computer and I was wondering if you wanted to see if and if it was okay, we could get them printed and put in the faculty member's mailboxes. I think that the e-vites item will be good for the students.
Hello,
I just wanted to make a suggestion of dealing with higher authorities in the college of management that we have to address our ideas to. Recently we have discussed how most of our ideas are being shut down when we and the majority of students that we talk to beleive that they are good ideas. I don't feel like the students and the Dean and/or people that we have to run things by are understanding our concept with this project (especially with the different t-shirt ideas that have been thrown out there). I feel like we should formally invite the Dean and the other faculty/staff that approves things/ideas to one of our classes or to a meeting with students from our classes as representatives to a panel/presentation of our overall concept. I don't truly feel like they understand the idea behind the concept. This is just a suggestion of maybe getting a presentation pulled together to present to maybe try to get everyone on the same page.
Thanks,
Erinique Longsworth

Hey guys,
Just to update where we are for the event. It is going to be the 2nd week of April, 9-13, with the event being on the 12th. We are going to have a pig pickin, some combo of sandwiches/pizza for food. I can get soft drinks for pretty cheap from the distributorship here in Raleigh. We are looking at the Interactive Playgrounds stuff, interactiveplaygrounds.net , so go there and check out some of the things they have. So far the dunk tank, obstacle course, sumo wrestling, jousting, and moonwalk boxing seem to be the favorites. Look on their and see if there is anything else you would like. We are going to try to get 2-3 bigger items and 1-2 smaller things, like the bball shooting or the golf driving contest. Ill know about the pig and Chris will get the prices for everything sometime next week.

Hello,
This is Erinique from Section 1, events group.
I know that section 1 is really excited about this week of events and think that it would be extremely successful and serve a lot of purposes for the College of Management and for the individuals that are apart of the college. I know from experience how successful this is because the College of Education does something similar and it all depends on support from all sides--students, organizations, dean, faculty and staff. I know that we have thrown aruond many events that would correspond with some of the days; I especially like the idea of colaborating with COMSAB and making their olympics event apart of our week because students will most likely be more aware of it.
My idea is that the week will have a specific, overall theme and each day will have its own theme, idea and/or activity. This is just a rough draft of my thoughts, so please feel free to add on or suggest anything else:
Monday
-Begin t-shirt sale
-a particular organization(s) have a table or activity
-Breakfast/brunch with the Dean (open event week bash)
Tuesday
-continue t-shirt sale
-another org promo/activity
-scavenger hunt/ win a prize
Wednesday
-continue t-shirt sale
-another org promo/activity
-a speaker
-court yard cookout/get to know your college (professors/faculty/staff/dean)
Thursday
-continue t-shirt sale
-another org promo/activity
-free give away day? or raffle?
Friday
-last day of t-shirt sale
-ALL org's get together in court yard (throw one big collaborative event; maybe COMSAB event)"unity of college"?
-closing of events
Like I said this is somethings that I just jotted down when section 1 was initially brainstorming on this idea. So please If you have any ideas that you think will work, I believe that everyone's creativity can make this successful if we decide to follow through with this.
Also, I would like to suggest an idea for a focus group. I think that we need to just ask students what they really want out of the college in general. I think that that will open up a lot of doors for more specific focus ideas. You never know what the general body of the college is thinking until you ask, and sometimes it is very beneficial.

Section 001
This is Chip Pope from Section 2,
First off excuse any typos. Its late and Im that lazy. The T-shirt design is dragging on and our group isnt in charge of that task anymore. Hopefully the design will be up soon so everyone can get an idea of what its gonna look like. It basically has that "real" font with all the concentrations in COM around it in the background. Thats not what we really wanted, but we were told to do it by some higher ups. The back of the shirt has the strutting wolf, wearing a business suite, carrying a briefcase with the COM logo on it. Ill try to make it clearer to section 1 on Friday.
Another idea to attract undergrads for the 'main' event, is to ask Andy Nowell to require his BUS 100 kids to attend, or something along those lines. That will easily be over 100 freshman that would benefit from getting to know people in the college. Im going to try to get in touch with COMSAB later this week, and meet with their president, Nick I beleive, and get things squared away with them. Elizabeth told me about the week of events and I think that could go well. We discussed maybe Monday being lunch with the dean, Tuesday a NC State scavenger hunt type deal, then helping COMSAB with their olympics on that Wednesday, and Thursday being the 'main' event. That seems to flow well and it should give us some things to start working on relatively soon.
For the main event, food wise, we are thinking of cooking a pig or two if possible. Obviously one pig wont feed anywhere near the number of people we are hoping for, but it will add to the event, we hope. We would cater out the rest of our BBQ needs, pizza, and maybe some sandwiches or what not. Any ideas or more importantly contacts and friends in the food business would be great.

This is Elizabeth Lane - the section 1 director...
Chip and I spoke last night and this is what we discussed:
Ms. Kimbrough asked him to get in touch with COMSAB and see about
coordinating our week of events with the same week as the COM olympics.
This would take care of one day of activities. For the other days we would like to have a lunch with the Dean (or other faculty as well), the scavenger hunt, and then the big event.
There is someone in the other class who has access to pigs
and pig cookers, so they would like to be in charge of food for our big
event to finish out the week. (We were thinking we'd do bbq and perhaps
pizza as well.) He asked if we would be interested in taking care of the
entertainment side of the event - they can get us in touch with a company that does the inflatable games - as is mentioned in the post below.
Chip will be in the 9:10 class on Friday so we can all get on the same page. As far as the t-shirts go, his opinion is that we'll order 300 plus enough for both classes. We talked about a $5 charge to people in the class for these, which Chip said Ms.Kimbrough supports since we didn't have to purchase a book.
As far as the date for the week of activities, I think it will need to be after spring break, more like towards the middle of April. There is too much work to be done to have this completed in 2 weeks (spring break is the week of March 5).
Section 1 would like to design and get some koozies produced to distribute as well. Feel free to contribute any additional ideas or feedback!
-Elizabeth
Ok events people, here is a complete update of what we have going on:
First of all, to Section 1, I think the week of events for First Year College is a fabulous idea. I suggested that we could do it the week before Spring Break, sort of a fun week right before our break to kick things off. And maybe we could just do it Monday-Thursday considering that lots of people might take off a day early. In Section 2 we talked about maybe getting a band to play. Some very good friends of mine have a band called DOCO who have actually played some pretty good gigs, and I'm sure they would be willing to play if you all like the idea of that. Also, someone in Section 2 mentioned Interactive Playgrounds, which is a company that sets up the inflatable obstacle courses (think American Gladiator style, except padded). Depending on the cost, this could be another fun thing to do during that week. We also discussed possible locations for the activity week which Chip is going to post sometime this weekend.
Secondly, we have been talking a bit more about making some T-shirts for the COM. These would be worn by all of us 465 students at the event, and we could also sell them to make back some of the money that we will spend printing them. Someone from our section has some great ideas for a wolf to go on the back of the shirt carrying a briefcase with the College of Management logo on it. He is working with Vicki Spake, who is within the COM and who had already looked into purchasing shirts for the School of Management. At this point we are trying to have a shirt that is tailored to our needs and for the event, but that would also be a good shirt for the college as a whole. Maybe even sell them in the bookstore eventually?
Some other details for the big event: Pullen Park has great picnic/cookout areas that you can reserve, so a large area like this could work really well for an event the size of the one we are planning. Any other ideas for venues? Also, in the past the COM has used Clyde Coopers as a BBQ catering company, so there is one idea for the food that we will serve.
If you all have any ideas, comments, questions, concerns about any of this, please post!! We need your opinions to make this work.
